"You Can't Handle the Truth"
How Do You Keep Going When the World Rewards Lies
There’s a specific kind of exhaustion that comes from watching truth lose. I feel it more every day. Not only is truth being ignored, but it’s also being actively manipulated and concealed in plain sight. It seems commonplace now.
It’s not that we don’t know how to find the truth. It’s just that we don’t bother anymore. Lies are easier, more comforting, and make you feel right without having to be right.
Truth?
It’s messy, inconvenient, and slow. It doesn’t trend well and rarely fits a caption looking to go viral.
A lie wraps everything in a neat little bow. It gives us a way to keep going. Take, for example, the belief that love conquers all. It’s simple, cinematic, and easy to hold onto when everything feels like it’s falling apart. The truth? Love isn’t always enough. People change and grow apart. Relationships break. Not everything can be saved. But we prefer the lie. Not because we’re naive but because we’re human.— Why We Loved Being Lied To
We’re not drowning in misinformation. We’re living in the age of strategic distraction. The game isn’t about convincing you anymore. It’s about keeping you confused, too tired, or too tribal to care.
And while we’re busy arguing over identity, the money moves quietly, and power accumulates. While we scroll past war crimes and injustices, the next election cycle quietly gears up like the next season of your favorite sport.
The worst part?
Even those of us who know better are starting to check out as we’re flooded with a barrage of lies and terrible news cycles. It’s overwhelming, disheartening, and sometimes you can’t help but look away.
But truth still matters.
Truth doesn’t scale with the speed that “likes” do. While lies can go viral, truth takes time to sink in. So if you’re feeling overwhelmed, disheartened, or tempted to check out, it doesn’t mean you’re weak. It means you’re awake. It means you’re paying attention.
It means you still care, and that’s becoming more and more rare.
So how do you keep going?
You don’t fight fire with fire. You fight it with clarity.
Don’t scream louder. You speak sharply. Keep questioning. Refuse to let the lies define the terms of the debate.
Don’t try to reach everyone. You can’t.
Speak for the ones who are looking for something real. Even if it’s just a handful of friends.
Write, film, create. Not to win arguments but to leave a map. Because at some point, someone is going to start waking up. And when they do, they’ll need to see the receipts.
You’re not imagining it.
Yes, it’s exhausting. And yes, it’s tempting to look away. But if the world is going to lose its mind, then maybe our job is to stay sane.
Even if no one hits that like button, even if the truth doesn’t trend, even if the only thing you’re certain of is that something is deeply wrong.
In times like this, clarity is the rebellion. Don’t confuse it with despair. And just because you see how bad it is doesn’t mean it’s hopeless.
We can choose not to be numb.
Clarity means you still care.
In a world addicted to numbness, that can make all the difference.
